... nevermind what you think about the look of the car ...

... what are the pros and cons of owning one? ...

... do you know anyone who drives one and are they happy with it? ...

Just don't get it because you think you're a) going to save money by doing so or b) trying to save the environment. Knowing you Cali, I'm assuming neither apply. In the market for a new car? Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if you can bear the excruciatingly slow acceleration. Then again, it's not terribly worse than most other econoboxes. The trade-off of less mechanical issues is a higher likelihood of electrical ones down the road. Electrical gremlins can ruin your life.

I generally hate them because of the yuppie dipshits who drive (if you can even call the talentless bullshit they attempt to do "driving") them, but the car itself isn't bad. Just like anything else, it's going to have plenty of issues. If you like it, go for it.

I know the previous gen. ones were noisy as could be ... they must not have used any sort of sound deadening to save weight. I think the new gen. ones got better tho, haven't taken one around to really tell.

we ended up leasing a prius for $79/month...

granted we had to put down $2500-- but I did the math, and still come out on top (over buying) when you factor in depreciation...

plus I write it all off as a business expense for my corporation...

anyways-- kinda in love with the car-- it does accelerate slow as shit if you're trying to keep in the fuel economy range-- which is the point of the car, right?

it's pretty fucking rad to look down at the mpg gauge and see that you've been averaging 62mpg for the last 2 tanks...

i've been to the gas pumps like 20 times with this car and have been leasing it for nearly a year... fucking rad...

kinda noisy inside, but no more than a corolla or civic. really hard to see out the back of the hatch-- you kinda need that backup cam...

i wouldn't lease another prius, but it is good for it's intended purpose.

i would definitely consider another hybrid or even full electric vehicle!

^ NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! TROY WHHHYYYYYY??!?!???? granted $80 a month is ultra cheap, but priuses are such shams.

#1 - they are NOT good for the environment. when looking at harm done to the environment miles per gallon are LOW LOW LOW LOW on the scale. don't believe me? do some research online - the manufacturing byproducts and waste are WAY worse than normal cars and negate any real environmental friendliness. it just goes to show how stupid people really are when it comes to education vs advertising. makes me sad.

#2 - they don't save THAT much gas. it's more the way you drive that matters than kinetic energy transferred to your battery from braking (hur dur durrrR). an m3 and a prius were put around a race track at 80mph and the prius ran out of gas first. i've noticed a bunch of asshole prius drivers mashing down the road like they're in some performance vehicle that magically saves gas. WRONG.

#3 - they're really not safe. in order to BOOST MPG (the only metric that matters to sheeple) they make the car light as fuck but not with high grade materials - no no - they legit skimp on normal safety features to keep the curb weight low. a smart car will barrel through that thing (ok - an exaggeration, but you get the point).

i will concede that it's nice to get the HOV sticker, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

edit: IF YOU WERE GONNA WRITE IT OFF WHY NOT OPT FOR NON-PRIUS!!!!!

1. I don't really care whether it's good for the environment or not, I care that I don't have to pay for gas 2x a week. $35 of gas gives me 500 miles.

2. I don't mash in the prius. lol, why would I? I literally average 55 miles per gallon. Do I accelerate slow as fuck to achieve this? Fuck yeah. Do I care if I'm being annoying? Fuck no

3. the old german tank theory-- hahaha, I don't know the safety record of the prius, but if the #1 selling car in socal had any major safety flaws, they would probably be exposed by now...

*about tax write-offs-- this affects me at the end of the year...
opting for the gas guzzling non-prius option means more money out of my pocket every month throughout the year...

what's your total monthly cost for transportation? something like this?

$80 lease payment
$70 gas
$120 insurance

no one can say shit to you if all you're paying is $3,240 ( maintenance costs) annually for transportation.

the only thing that bothers me about your prius situation is the ionogivafuck mentality about being annoying. people who harbor a comprehensive iongivafuck mentality should think about why they live among the general public. is saving a couple bucks per week really worth ruining someone's day/commute?

it's not that slow bro...

taking it easy, 0-60 would be in like 18 secs or so...

i wouldn't be "ruining" anyone's day...

if you're not gunning a regular car- a 0-60 would be somewhere in the range of 14 secs or so... 4 ticks per acceleration...

if that ruins someone's day/commute, then they have way bigger problems in life...

although there were much more attractive options, like take over my aunt's IS, or buy her mom's C300, we ended up just paying out the residual on the lease.

although the other two options were similar in price (bc our families are generous to us), the laziness of going to the gas pump won out. the thought of going from a car that we average ~50mpg in to V6's that would average less than half of that was just too much. i hate going to the gas station. i wish the electric cars were cheaper, i would so go that route.

plus, i figured maintenance cost on entry level luxury cars will be double down the line as well. cheap ol jerk
