when you meet someone, does where they went to college make a difference in determining whether you'd want to date them?

It matters more that they went to school and actually learned shit while they were there.

i theorized a long time ago that schooling would matter a lot more to women than men as dating criteria.

it didn't matter to me. my wife's education was just icing on the cake. i could tell she was intelligent without a piece of paper (sheepskin?) telling me so.

it's a common question--i don't think it necessarily means anything. sure, there are ppl hung up on people's pedigree, but that's a douchy thing they probably do regardless of gender.

Just a combination icebreaker question + probing question to make sure there won't be wars in the house during March Madness.

it depends.

if a girl is super sharp and clever, I'll respect her no matter what school she went to/didn't go to. I've met super smart and savvy girls who never went to undergrad-- self education goes a long way if you are willing to educate yourself.

on the other hand, if some girl tells me she got a masters from the university of phoenix, the elitist in me will surely question both her intelligence AND her education.

i dated this attorney, and I have to say that it was mainly her education that attracted me to her. When she said HARVARD Law, I was pretty impressed.

hahahahahha

I once went out with work colleagues. the conversation went as follows:

*talking about setting up one of the guys, named ALAN*
"dude Alan you're gettin up there. what are you? 35 this year? any thoughts of settling down?"
"hmmm who could we set him up with!?"
"uhh.....i'm not ready yet--"
"how about that summer intern in exot rate derivs trading? she's interning from COLUMBIA!"
"and her undergrad was YALE!"
"hey man she's got pedigree, that's important!"

(btw....alan didnt care)

I use to have some sort of standards.

Honestly, looking back, personality triumphs over everything. School, education, looks, whatever, doesn't matter to me as much. I can look beyond that now.

Strip me of everything and see me bare, then love me for that. I will do the same for you.

where they went to college matters less to me than whether or not they even went to college in the first place. i would not avoid dating someone just bc i thought they went to a crappy college.

i think having gone to college says quite a bit about a person; going to college isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence. i've met plenty of really really dumb people who have gone to college (and even graduate school), and i've dated guys who haven't gone to college but who are very very intelligent. there are exceptions to every rule right? it shows that this guy can commit to something and see it all the way through. i think it just reveals a bit of character and that they're capable enough of at least graduating college.

doesnt matter. just have to connect, but i suppose that would require some level of intelligence.

but someone who went to college would probably be more likely to be compatible.

Just seems more likely that someone that went to college has some semblance of intelligence to be compatible. I'm not looking for Einstein or anything...

And I would hope someone going to college has aspirations. I think it's important for a woman to have drive.

Once again, college is not indicative of having intelligence or ambition, as mentioned in other posts, but playing the percentages, the odds are in favor of someone who attended university.

Then of course, there's love that ruins everything with its irrational bullshit.. so... yeah.

To answer the original question, it wouldn't matter what school they went to. It just depends on what they've done with that degree and where they are now.
