i fucking LOVE LA. love it. all my ho's still tricking with me, all my dawgs still kick it with me...

BUT... it's just so damn expensive. it will take me at least another 10 years to be where I want to be financially if i stay here... and that's being quite optimistic-- whereas i could just move to buttfuck MO and literally retire... to a pauper's life-- but i could literally not have to work another day in my life. kind of a nice alternative, no?

but then i wouldn't be able to enjoy the shit i love to do-- which is be around my friends and family. so is that really any better? not really for me. ugh

i would totally like to live in spain for half the year though. that sounds like fun and cheap. i just need to put things into play where i can run business from abroad. not so easy.

this is just a rant.

what are your thoughts though? have you guys thought about living somewhere cheaper?

Hawaii is worse. You get paid less and everything is more expensive

But yeah, lot of people I know moved eastward due to living cost reasons.

Atlanta's housing prices are a lot more reasonable than la. You can get a nice 3 bedroom house for about 300k

I think every state has expensive and cheap places, but in general most states are cheaper to live in than la except nyc

A bunch of high school friends moved there and I was thinking of moving there too so I did some research. It's a possibility but gonna try to stay in SoCal for now

Yeah housing prices in la/oc are ridiculous

I'm probably going to move soon too so I was looking at zillow a lot

at one point i was considering moving to tx or somewhere in the east.

i was up in WA recently, and id consider that as well.

still a possibility, but not as likely as before, business keeps me tethered to socal...unless i move the entire operation elsewhere.

one of the reasons i'm tryin to leave jersey. too damn expensive for a single income. i'd have to move too far from work if i ever wanted to buy a house on my own. plus property taxes are ridiculous. my folks bought a place just north of richmond, va. property taxes are about 2k/yr. comparable place here would easily be $10k - $12k/year. fuck that noise.

got something in the works out in VA. on the coast, but the nearest major city is over 2 hours away. i'll give it a year or two. if it doesn't work out, i'll move again. kid is still young enough that another move won't be too traumatic.

what is the % they take on property tax out in NJ or VA? that's one thing that TX can really fuck you with-- some counties are like 2-3%...

here in LA, it's 1.25%

definitely research where you buy to optimize profits if you plan on selling with within 2-5 yrs. i.e. 90026 has the fastest growth seen for the last 3 years. it's the shit side of silverlake, but people are starting to paying ridiculous prices for property there now.

looks like it's 2.3% in my town. jersey has the highest property taxes in the country. not sure how it all works out, since i still rent and don't really pay attention to that stuff. i just know the first question people ask when anyone buys a house is "how much are your taxes?"

looks like VA collects less than 1%. highest rate in the state is 0.94%

there are no condos available in 90802. well, none at our price point. this fucking sucks.

our agent told us we're not unrealistic about the price-- it's just that there's literally no inventory right now-- but we should be able to pick one up if and when it pops up on the MLS.

i wish i had more money 5 years ago, we would have made a killing on real estate
