So, I'm probably one of the older posters on this forum. I figure I might as well contribute to this online community, by lending whatever little wisdom or insight I've gained in my 21 years of life so far...

So I'll use this space as an advice column, "Dear Abby"-style...Feel free to ask questions about life, religion, and the Cowboys' playoff chances...

Ah, excellent question Mike.

On the surface, I'd probably say yes because perception is often reality. I mean, where there's smoke, there's usually fire. If there are anonymous sources willling to speak about it to the media, I have to wonder whether there really is a lot of dischord in the locker room...

But at the end of the day, I think more players on the team support Owens than not...after all, the defensive players basically took his side (whether that really was his side or not is another story) when the whole Witten/Romo/T.O. drama broke...I know a lot of the younger players like Bennett and Choice look up to him. Plus, I admire his work ethic and nobody can question his competitiveness...

As Viper said in Top Gun, "If you had to go into battle, would you want him on your side or not?" And my answer would have to be a resounding yes.

Dear Tiyo,

When will the Cowboys win a playoff game?

Kicker,

I've been asking myself that question for 12 years now. These last dozen years has been the darkest most turbulent era for what has otherwise been the preeminent franchise in pro sports.

I think the previous long stretch was from '83 to '91 (8 years), but this team won at least one playoff game for at six straight years ('91-'96') before the current drought...

As Andy Dufresne said in "The Shawshank Redemption," "Who knew that the storm would last this long?"

That being said, I'm very hopeful for this year...I think we always had a lot of talent, but we were missing that innate toughness that you need to win in December and January. That stretch where we lost Romo and we had to beat the Bucs and Redskins for our playoff lives really helped in the end. The defense is playing great, and this team seems primed for a long run deep into January...

I picked Dallas D as top 5 pre-season. They are finally showin' it. It's about damn time! They have all the tools on offense, it was their defense that killed them in the first half. Now it's their defense that sets the tone. Demarcus Ware has been MVP for the past couple games.

But bein' Dallas...I have a feelin' they might meltdown. What's up with Dallas and meltin'? Mavericks ala Golden State? Cowboys ala Romo's field goal fumble? The Stars have been okay...lol

tiyo, do you think it would be wise to forgo a college education and pursue a somewhat lucrative job during this recession?

Morpheus,

I hate to give such a trite and equivocal answer, but: it depends. There's a lot to be said about going to college beyond just the financial costs/benefits involved.

For instance, I have a lot of regrets from college. I regret not studying harder; not because learning partial differential equations or numerical linear algebra would help me in my job today (and by extension, increase my earning capacity), but because I would just like to know those things. And I had a chance to learn those things from the best and brightest in the world, but I wasted too much time being unhappy and loafing around. So therefore, there's a lot of non-economic factors that go into a college education.

Plus, going to school right now seems like a wise thing to do considering that you won't be foregoing as much opportunity costs as you would otherwise (assuming that the 'lucrative job' isn't lucrative precisely because it somehow takes advantage of the current soft economy). Of course, the flip-side of that argument is that school will always be there, while this job opportunity might not be.

I suppose my advice would be to look at things long-term, as opposed to being shortsighted about any such major decisions.

Good question, SlackA. Where do you currently work/live?

And to address your other point, why yes, I'm 21 (in dog years).

is the death star fully armed and operational, or is it safe to launch a surprise attack on it?
